Has technology made small businesses/startups better? | Views: 769 |

Rishi Boparai | | In the past people worked with their hands, they built trade shops and communities dependent on relationships.
Technology helps us communicate, keep track of menial tasks and automates repeating functions, but does it help the small business person develop better businesses?

Shrinath Navghane | | Rishi,
The answer is Obvious Yes. The technology is making things easier. We have better and more user friendly software, networking communities, enterprise solutions which were till date only available for big corporations and so on.
Technology has revolutionized many things, but Asset creation through them is still a challenge not many can face up to. The know how in technology does not transfer to experience.
So I guess, its become easier but success is a different level altogether.
Cheers!

Laxmikant Chitare | | True, technology is the reason that we see so many small companies(in a small room or in a flat) emerging every day.
There are companies with just 2-3 people sales force and they have clients all over the world. Hadn't there been any improvement in the technology, we wouldn't have seen so many entrepreneurs, in fact this forum wouldn't exist.
Looking at the current situation and looking at the way outsourcing is changing its definition, a time is gonna come when we will have large number of small companies instead of big giants.

Rishi Boparai | | In fact I read an article by a former editor of Business India that the next Google might spring up from a small town in India.
and guys, thanks for your contributions to this topic. i like to have forum discussions on topics related to startups such as the one I posted here.
In case you guys are interested, such forum discussions can be found by joining the Startup Essentials tribe at a website called www.techtribe.com. It's an Indian website so I guess we can get a complete discussion from entrepreneurs across India.Private Reply to Rishi Boparai |

Shrinath Navghane | | I don't think another Google will come out of India, specially because Indian IT Companies don't serve Consumer market or develop anything that benefits the end consumer. We are still at large a back end development/R&D centric industry and innovation is hard to come.
Also, Entrepreneurs from other fields have much better chances of utilizing the technologies which are cheap and now easily available.
Cheers!

Rishi Boparai | | Hi Shrinath
Dont you think that if some intelligent Indian graduates from IIT sat together and looked to form something that meets a need ( like Google for search) , we can get a Google like company from India?
Also, this is obviously based on the premise that they reject other lucrative offers coming their way.
Oh and I forgot, did you join the Startup Essentials tribe at techtribe? You can add me as a contact there.

Laxmikant Chitare | | There was a time when 90% graduates from IIT and IIM used to leave the country for the lucrative offers they used to get from abroad.
Very recently this trend has changed. Now most of the graduates from best institutes like to stay back. But the question is, is it because of patriotism? No. It is only because of the economical growth in India. The difference between the pay they get in India and what they get outside is now close to zero.
So what's the conclusion? Indian minds always give priority to short term returns. Adopting Google concept is something we can just hope for. And why not? India is struggling to get basic things necessary for living.
But I really wish that your premise turns into fact.
Regards, Laxmikant

Rishi Boparai | | I think what India really needs is for ideas to come together and some big companies to form out of those ideas! Private Reply to Rishi Boparai |

Shrinath Navghane | | Rishi,
I think you finally understood what we were discussing. Indians should take examples from Infosys, Tata-Nano and a very few start-up's who have actually created brands and services which are recognized around the world.
Pune Entrepreneurs Network intends to be a part of this change and help the next generation of businesses create a niche for themselves.
Cheers!

Ashish Belagali | | Hey guys,
I seem to be an exception to some things written here: - being a silly IITan who chose to stay here against common trend when I graduated - trying to create software product for India based consumers (India based recruitment consultants for now) - looking for achieving long term success by serving our customers well
Will I succeed? Only if fellow entrepreneurs (like you) decide to chip in. There are limits to what one man can do in isolation!
Please check out a thread I started recently on this board regarding our software product. (I missed out on the subject line initially.) See how you could help. Though I mentioned funding, clearly we could use help in a lot other aspects.
Thanks,
/Ashish
